Information

Orlistat is a white to off-white crystalline powder. Orlistat is practically insoluble in water, freely soluble in chloroform, and very soluble in methanol and ethanol. XENICAL is available for oral administration as a dark-blue or turquoise hard-gelatin capsule. The dark blue capsule is imprinted with light blue and the turquoise capsule is imprinted with black. Each capsule contains a pellet formulation consisting of 120 mg of the active ingredient, orlistat, as well as the inactive ingredients microcrystalline cellulose, sodium starch glycolate, sodium lauryl sulfate, povidone, and talc. The dark blue capsule shell contains gelatin, titanium dioxide, and FD&C Blue No. 1, with printing of pharmaceutical glaze NF, titanium dioxide, and FD&C Blue No. 1 aluminum lake. The turquoise capsule shell contains gelatin, titanium dioxide, and FD&C Blue No. 2 with black printing ink containing pharmaceutical grade shellac, dehydrated alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, butyl alcohol, propylene glycol, strong ammonium solution, potassium hydroxide and black iron oxide.

Effects

Swiss drug Xenical is a well-known remedy for overweight. The fats entering our body cannot be absorbed if not broken down into small fractions. This is done by special enzymes of the pancreas. The active substance Xenical neutralizes these enzymes, preventing the process of splitting, and hence the absorption of fat by the body. As a result, fats coming from food do not pass through the intestinal walls, do not enter the bloodstream, do not participate in providing the body with energy, are not deposited in the fat depots, but are safely excreted unchanged with feces. But, since fats in some quantities are needed to support vital activity, the body begins to use deferred deposits. Thus, weight loss is due to two reasons: the caloric content of food is reduced by eliminating the energy indices of undigested fats from food, while the volume of food does not decrease and a sharp rejection of the usual dishes is not required; begins the consumption of fat, already deposited in the body.

How It Works

Under normal conditions, your intestine can absorb fats; however, absorbing these compounds is not as easy as it seems.

The fat really needs to dissolve or degrade to pass through the small pores left by our intestine for food’s passage needed to support us.

Let us imagine our intestine as a large strainer with tiny holes, and fats as large necklaces made of many pearls joined.

To be able to absorb the fats and allow these large molecules (necklace) passage, we need collaborators to degrade that necklace to only pearls. This role corresponds to an enzyme called lipase, responsible for degrading fats to minor substances called lipids.

The lipids can pass through intestine’s absorption membranes, however, Xenical acts on the lipase, decreasing its capacity to degrade fats, which end up in the feces.

Xenical limitation or blockage is at least 30%.

It is impossible to create a total limitation of absorbed fats, since many important elements have fats, such as vitamins and essential oils. In fact, fats are a fundamental component to be able to exist, life is impossible without the ingestion of some lipids. However, the effect of Orlistat does not completely limit the absorption of fats, thus allowing the passage of important vitamins and other nutrients.

Several studies confirm the effectiveness of Xenical, even on a population as large as 30.000 patients, came to the conclusion that weight loss, and the benefits it brings with it, was a sufficient foundation to allow its consumption.
